Madness In Print
Dutch Article Trilogy - 1981? Here are three separate articles from the Dutch press submitted to Madness In Print by Judge Fredd Boeuf and kindly translated by Rene. The first is from a publication called Hitkrant written by William Jan van de Wettering. ![]() Madness See Double It's a strange experience to see Chas Smith, leader, mentor, and dancer of Madness talking in the plural when he's talking about one person. Overfatigue and excessive alcohol use are at the base of this doublevision. Excited record company guys dance around the supergroup of jokers. And they're not pleased with it. The commerce is trying to put Madness in a strangle hold, but the stubborn British guys resist with all their might. "That's the downside of success", whines Chas, who turns out to be not only blessed with doublevision but also a pessimist. Singer Suggs is in a better mood while a cup of coffee gives the impression that he's capable to give sober answers. "We've come in that rapid that we didn't see it coming", he explains simply. "At the base the pop music seemed a babbling stream but now it's one long waterfall.” “We started to play together because it seemed like fun. When we had success it was fun too but now we have to do more and more things we don't like.” And that’s annoying and tiring. Luckily we're on holiday and then we have to produce 12 new songs before August 20th, because the busy record bosses want a new LP out in September.” “They're not completely wrong, because it's going well with Madness but not too crazy. If we make a great LP now we can become a proper supergroup. But do we really want that?" After that last remark Suggs seems to have turned into a pessimist because he starts to stare. Madness are overtired. But wanna bet that the new LP will be there in September? The next two articles featured are from unknown publications. Madness In The Boat ![]() This week Madness are in the country. This crazy group will talk to the press on an Amsterdam canalboat. What, a canalboat? A spokesperson from the record company: “Madness are such scum, if you interview them in a hotelroom, they will leave before anyone can put in a word.” On a canalboat they can't escape, unless the boys from Madness are in possession of a swimming diploma, because then even the dirty Amsterdam canals aren't safe. Madness Make a Mess ![]() On Thursday Madness made a mess in the airport of Madrid. The group just did a TV performance for Spanish TV and a big concert in Madrid. Coincidently there was a strike of the canteen personnel at the airport. So there was nothing to eat or drink. The starving Madness members didn't settle for that and broke into the canteen. When there was no food there, they ate in desperation the lunches of the taxi drivers. The mess in the canteen was big, but no arrests were made. - Contributed by Fredd Boeuf and translated into English by Rene Madness In Print Return Return to Homepage | Return to Top of Page |
