Tour Madness  November 16th, 17th and 18th 1979 - LONDON: Electric Ballroom
Attendance (first two nights) - 3,000 - sellout
Support: Bad Manners, Red Beans & Rice

Coming back from the "2-Tone" tour, Madness play a three night stint at the Electric Ballroom. Initially two shows are planned for the 16th and 17th but due to overwhelming ticket demand an extra date is added on the 18th. As in October the band's homecoming is spoilt by the attendance of neo Nazis. Deanne Pearson writes in her article for New Musical Express they (National Front-supporters) selfishly refuse to allow Red Beans & Rice, whose frontman is black, to play, and Suggs is forced onstage to plead, reason and yell at the audience. I feel sorry for him, as he spreads his hands in despair, and admits that he doesn't know what to say. He's not only saddened, he's also ashamed; this is a Madness audience? Finally he storms offstage, kicking the microphone over as he goes. Chas has a go, and even his brother Brendan, and finally the audience majority, seeing not only their entertainment but also their money being wasted. They back up Chas' "Fun not politics" line and welcome "Red Beans & Rice" onstage. After Madness set the meaningless sieg Heiling is quickly quelled by Suggs sneering "Alright, I can see what you are, I've got eyes haven't I ?". Then he, and the rest of the audience, simply ignores them.
