While the 'Work, Rest & PIay' EP becomes the third UK Top 10 hit in a row, Madness prepare for a two month tour that covers Britain and the Continent. The UK leg, dubbed 'Out In The Sticks' tour is scheduled to start on April 15 but because Woody s father battles with his health, the first five shows are postponed to May and June. The tour now begins in Margate and mainly visits smaller, oft neglected places. The Go Go's (who have signed to Stiff for European releases, Thanks to Madness' efforts) support. Some of These concerts are taped by Joe Massot who first saw the band in November 1979 in Los Angeles. Massot was so impressed that he decided to make a film about Madness. His Son Jason (a huge ska fan) suggested that he should also pay attention to the other bands associated with 2 Tone. Upon his return to Britain, Massot started to tape live performances by Bad Manners, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers, The Selecter and The Specials. The 'Top Of The Pops' playback performance of nightboat To Cairo is planned for inclusion in 'Dance Craze', but eventually receded. As it is the 'Nightboat To Cairo' tour, this song opens the set. Four new tracks are added; Crying Shame, E.R.N.I.E. (about the lottery- computer), Baggy Trousers (Suggs' school-anthem) and Embarrassment, a song about a mixed race baby and the parents being despised for it (Lee's niece Haley is born out of a mixed relatonship).

For Carl the irish shows are a homecoming; his parents hail from Ireland and he spent part of his youth here. The Olympic Ballroom is coincidentally located in Camden Street and that '2-Tone'-mania is as big in Ireland as it Is in Britain becomes evident by the thousands of 2 tone rudeboys who are queueing for tickets. For those who cant grab a ticket there's nothing left but listening to independent radio-station BCD who broadcast the show live. Believe Me is dedicated to ''those who think they'll be getting married, The Young & The Old to those who like alcoholic beverages, and Bed & Breakfast Man to Jake Riviera, the original Stiff-founder. Embarrassment has a false start because Suggs forgets the lyrics; he keeps messing it up. During One Step Beyond Carl tells all skinheads to ''Get up on your feet, and put your right together. This show has such an impact that Anto Nolan, a fan of the band, writes a stage-play about an exiled fan who returns to Ireland to celebrate the lath anniversary of the concert with two friends who failed to move with the times and begrudge him for becoming an ordinary yuppie. 'Too Much Too Young' (after the Specials' anti teen pregnancy song) premieres on July 17, 1995 at the Dublin Tivoli and runs for six weeks. Carl and Lee attend the July 24, 1995-show. They end up meeting Nolan and the fans on whom the characters are based.

Suggs and Mike miss the tourbus and are brought to the show by the concert promoter who fails to Inform the others. They arrive just before the impatient crowd were going to express their anger. Halfway the show a police-officer comes on stage to ask in German if the owner of the brown Ford at the car park would go back to to turn his lights off. The officer's hat is thrown at the crowd before he goes the same way.

Steve Sutherland writes in Melody maker: 'lt never seems odd that Madness dedicate songs to their mums and sing Razorblade Alley in the same set. They fling a lot at you and most of it sticks. Bed & Breakfast Man; short, snappy and busting with ideas. Swan Lake, One Step Beyond and the encore. Madness. are irresistible invitations to dance. They're a great band. Madness is catching. Madness is fun'.

Support for these last four shows is Clive Langer & The Boxes and The Go-Go's, except St Austell which is just the Go Go's. The 'Nightboat To Cairo'tour draws to a close. Madness spend the rest of the month writing and rehearsing new songs at the Nomis Studios.
